Top 5 sportsmen of 2011
Drew Brees for breaking Dan Marino’s yardage record.
Jenson Button for coming ahead of everyone except Sebastian Vettel
Dai Greene for winning the world 400m Hurdles and for being Welsh
Nathan Cleverly for being Britain’s only remaining boxing World Champion (and for being Welsh)
Mark Cavendish for winning Sports Personality

Losers of the Year
Carlos Tevez – Perhaps it was too cold to play?
The three Pakistan cricketers convicted of match fixing.
Mike Tindall – He would have been put in the Tower 400 years ago.
Alain Rolland – For sending off Sam Warburton against France. I know he’s Irish but he sure sounds French.
Amir Khan – for losing when a Super-Fight was on the horizon.

Teams of the Years
AFC Wimbledon – well the first half of the year anyway.
Wales Rugby team – for being better than England.
England Cricket – for being better than everyone (in Test Cricket anyway).
Barcelona – for thrashing Man Utd in the Champions League Final
Oakland Raiders – well why not?

Special Mile High Messiah Award
Tim Tebow – no he’s not he’s just a naughty boy!

Note that there are no women listed, well its not really sport is it?

Trefor Little

So for the first time since race 5 of the season we have an F1 driver ranking post. While my feelings towards F1 were tempered slightly by the domination of king Vettel and the introduction of DRS it was still generally a good season. Possibly not up there with the last couple but fairly strong. How were the drivers though? Well Hamilton certainly struggled with his style not suiting a DRS / Pirelli tyre world. He made silly mistakes aplenty and looked like a rookie. This is the first season he has been outperformed by a teammate and that saw him slip. Heikki Kovaleinen continues his rise through the rankings. He has worked very well with a teammate not seeming to contribute much and moved Lotus near to the midfield. He deserve a high spot.

1 Sebastien Vettel /
2 Fernando Alonso +1
3 Jenson Button +1
4 Nico Rosberg +1
5 Heikki Kovaleinen +4
6 Lewis Hamilton -4
7 Paul Di Resta +6
8 Kamui Kobayashi -2
9 Sergio Perez +2
10 Mark Webber -2
11 Michael Schumacher +3
12 Bruno Senna RE
13 Felipe Massa -1
14 Adrian Sutil +2
15 Timo Glock +2
16 Vitaly Petrov -7
17 Daniel Ricciardo NE
18 Nick Heidfeld -8
19 Pedro De La Rosa RE
20 Sebastien Buemi -5
21 Jaime Alguersuari -2
22 Rubens Barrichello -4
23 Jarno Trulli -3
24 Tonio Liuzzi +3
25 Pastor Maldonado -2
26 Jerome D’Ambrosio -4
27 Karun Chandhok RE
28 Narain Kathikeyan -4

At the bottom, the two Indian drivers sit at the bottom fairly deservedly based on performances. D’Ambrosio never seemed fully cut out as Di Grassi’s replacement while I still don’t like Maldonado or Liuzzi in F1. Trulli and Barrichello need to realise it is time to retire and the two Toro Rosso drivers must have reached their ends too? Hopefully some old boys can go away and the new generation can come and play. With that being said though, Schumacher is showing the old boys still have some life in them. Curses.

We like Surbiton. We headed there in March for the first time and went back on a lovely August day. Possible rain thankfully held off just for us with precipitation within a couple of miles. Track conditions were perfect and after we had calmed Cathy’s nerves we were ready to go. We went with a semi reverse grid again and therefore lined up like this:
1. Beth Little
2. Beverley Little
3. Ceri Almrott
4. Cathy Leopold
5. Trefor Little
6. Thomas McCorkell
7. Patrick Hill
8. Jonathan Little

The rolling start went better than it did in May. This time though we had the pack split in two with Beth, Bev and Ceri pulling away in the front. When the safety kart pulled in we all passed Cathy and Thomas fell back as well. By this time Beth started to get a lead as Beverley and Ceri learned the track. Then the front positions changed quickly with Beverley heading down the pack and an incident involving a backmarker sent Ceri slowly through the pitlane to avoid the accident. This allowed Jonathan past and into second but a previous spin stopped Patrick from following through. Jonathan set off after Beth, realising he was not in the lead yet. It took a good ten more laps to catch her, she was flying in the lead for the first time. The pass came after a couple more laps following an strong run onto the straight giving more speed that Beth’s line.

Eventually Ceri got close to Jonathan’s pace and that inevitably eventually gave him second with a pass on Beth. Jonathan meanwhile set the fastest lap having eventually worked out that the whole track can be taken completely flat and was happy going off into the distance.

	laps

	off first

	fastest

	1 Jonathan

Unfortunately I don’t know much about everyone else’s races, if something exciting happened to you then let me know.

I did take a video but surbiton does not seem conducive to my filming thanks to the high speed bumpy nature of the track it keeps getting bumped down my helmet. I figure its just best not to bother giving reader sea-sickness.

The kickoff times for BritBowl XXV (25) – the official championship weekend for the BAFA (British American Football Association) National Leagues – have been unveiled ahead of the season-ending showdown later this month.

BritBowl XXV (25) will see eight finals take place over the course of two hard-hitting, action-packed days at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Saturday September 24 and Sunday September 25. Here is the line-up for BritBowl XXV weekend:

Saturday September 24
11:30am – Gates open to the public
12 noon – Cadet Flag Final
1:00pm – Junior Flag Final
2:00pm – 14-17 year old Contact Final
3:00pm – Division 1 Final – Leicester Falcons v East Kilbride Pirates
6:30pm – Pre-Game show – The Urban Voodoo Machine
7:30pm – Premier Division Final

Sunday September 25
11:30am – Gates open to the public
12 noon – Junior Contact Final
3:00pm – Division 2 Final – South Wales Warriors v West Coast Trojans
6:00pm – Adult Flag Final

Single tickets cost £15 for adults, £10 for 14 to 18-year-olds and £6.00 for under 14s. Weekend packages for both days of gridiron action cost £25 for adults, £15 for 14 to 18-year-olds and £8.50 for under 14s. Tickets can be bought via Ticketmaster at http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/Britbowl-tickets/artist/5003180 Tickets can also be bought on the day.

Event organiser DREW ANDERSON says: “We are busy finalising our plans for BritBowl XXV and think our event offers something for everybody in London. The hard-hitting action on the field will appeal to American football fans in the UK while there will also be plenty to keep the family entertained over the weekend. We are planning a special weekend on and off the field.”

The semi-finals for the elite Premier Division will take place on Sunday September 11 with top-ranked London foes on course to meet at BritBowl XXV. The London Blitz will host the Bristol Aztecs, while the London Warriors – featuring TV personality and NFL fan VERNON KAY among their squad – will take on the Tamworth Phoenix.

You can follow the build-up to BritBowl XXV via Twitter @BritBowlXXV or by going to Facebook and searching for BritBowlXXV.

If you have even a passing interest in American football then this is a great and cheap way to find out how the UK sport looks and works. I will be there, you may not see me, but I will be there and it would be great to see as many fans of the sport as possible.
