Y’know what Top Gear is right

Posted on February 15, 2010 by jonners99No Comments

Top Gear was right even if it was meant solely to incite hatred in Alabama when they announced that ‘nascar sucks’.

This year I have again tried to watched the Daytona 500… For the first 120 laps of the race it held my interest and I thought it was an interesting thing to have on in the background while doing other things. I watched the 2009 race and they called it off for a small shower. That is wimpy and dumb, certainly I can see why the way nascar and indy car runs it would be near impossible to maintain in the rain. People are there to see a race not to see caution flags thrown because of a bit of rain or a driver losing a wing mirror…

What I’ve been working on

Posted on February 14, 2010 by jonners99No Comments

You may or may not know that several months ago my friend Craig and I launched (well almost) our own hosting website. I’ll tell you more about that in another post in the future when we have finished tinkering. Part of that process meant signing up as being self employed, I thought that I’d take the opportunity to earn some extra funds and build websites for people in my spare time. Well the first of those websites has now been launched.

Why I support the Denver Broncos… and more

Posted on January 16, 2010 by jonners99No Comments

I thought a blog post would be a good place to explain why I like the sports people and teams that I do. The reasons are often illogical or slightly daft.

Denver Broncos
The strangest pick has to be why I support the Denver Broncos as my main NFL team. During the time that I have supported the team they have done approximately nothing of great worth nor have they had a great quarterback. Meanwhile the other NFL teams I like all have relatively sensible reasons (New Orleans: Rally after Hurricane Katrina that transformed them from one of the worst to one of the best teams, Seattle: Lofa Tatupu, Indianapolis: Peyton Manning, Baltimore: That defense). But no my support of Denver hinges on this:

Sporting achievements 2009

Posted on January 2, 2010 by jonners991 Comment

I asked my resident king of sports knowledge (I say king meaning he knows more than me) Trefor Little (aka my dad) to write down the top 5 sporting achievements of 2009. In no particular order then:

  • England winning the ashes
  • Andy Murray reaching Number 2 in the world rankings
  • Jenson Button winning the world championship
  • Usain Bolt breaking the 100m and 200m world records again
  • Manny Pacquiao becoming the first man to win seven different titles at seven different weights

Come back on the 4th for his list of the top 5 achievements of the decade. What do you think?

Last Karting Action of 2009

Posted on December 31, 2009 by jonners99No Comments

On the 27th December eleven of us intrepid drivers turned up at the track in Crawley for a race to end 2009.

The afternoon started with five minutes of practice session and ten minutes qualifying. The practice session went by with barely a yellow flag shown with everyone taking their time learning the track. The ten minute qualifying session though ended with a flurry of yellow flags as drivers pushed to try and get up the grid. Several drivers therefore ended up lower down the order than they expected. It was also noted that a number of drivers who had been before (we had three rookies at this event) complained of a lack of grip. 11 drivers on a 400 metre track also led to traffic issues as it proved to be difficult to guarentee a clean lap. With that said the grid was thus:

The Karting continues

Posted on November 14, 2009 by jonners99No Comments

I would continue saying its nerdy but there was quite a crowd (of two) as I entered the lap data (how is that interesting). I also apologise for the poor quality of my deodorant, it has now been replaced.

For extra information about the track you are best off going to my previous post first:
August 09

The track seemed wider this time around, I guess we (the 4 who had been before) had experience which made it seem less forboding. That said, Vicki was terrified.

State of the Broncos

Posted on October 17, 2009 by jonners99No Comments

So with a new head coach the Broncos have gone 5-0 for the first time since 1998 when they last one the super bowl. Will the team reach such lofty heights this year? I personally do not see it.

I feel nerdy

Posted on June 28, 2009 by jonners992 Comments

Am I a muppet… undoubtedly. So I may as well show it by printing analysis of mine and Beth’s go-karting race in March. Interesting? Un-bloody-likely

The track:
Apparently “WildTracks has one of the best tarmac circuits in the UK. Tight turns and fast straights make for great racing.

Fast and furious, and sitting only inches above the track, karting offers exhilarating entertainment and brings out the competitive spirit in everyone. Our 700m tarmac circuit is 10m wide – giving plenty of room for overtaking.”

The British Grand Prix 2009

Posted on June 27, 2009 by jonners99No Comments

We arrived at the campsite around 3:30 on the Thursday and set up camp. Once this was done we headed off for a walk, we found the perimeter road around the track. We passed the entrance to the track and wandered all the way around the track to Vale which is about 2/3s of the way before finding a gate stopping as getting further… great. We therefore just sauntered back to the campsite for a BBQ
