Our Sunday started with the service at St Peters which was led by a fun lady. She got the children up the front and made the mistake London Road did in letting Balloons go to the top of the church. They aren’t as sturdy as the one in Horsham was so maybe they will last under six months. After church Beth and I went to Wetherspoons for lunch with Kerri, Becca and a Korean student whose named I can’t spell. It was nice to go out with people for lunch and the food was good as ever but I was keeping an eye on the clock. At 12:40 (after everyone had finished eating) I headed home to watch the Italian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton did well from 15th on the grid to get 7th in the race but it was another race where he finished behind Felippe Massa and so his championship lead is down to 1pt. It is going to bed an exciting end to the season and I just wish Hamilton hadn’t had his stupid penalty last weekend.
After the race Beth and I went for a walk along the city wall, we found a pretty little park where a band was playing in the bandstand and so we sat and listened till they ended their set which included music from Grease.
In the evening we went to Canterbury Christ Church university to see what their chapel was like. It was a huge building and there was a congregation of 35 people before the term had even started which was impressive after Southlands chapels 18 or so each week. Even better was that the service ended and we were treated to Dominoes pizza. Lets be honest worship is easier with pizza. So it is a nice chapel and it was good to see a University chapel that works with the christian union which seems the least absurd of all the ones I have witnessed. Roehampton’s one in particular was very strange with everyone going to the same church in Putney and not being entirely welcoming to new people with new beliefs. Oh well this one then is different and needs encouraging. I look forward to returning in future when the term has started. The university itself is spread among multiple locations in Canterbury. The main campus is smaller that Roehamptons but the space has been used more efficiently, where in Roehampton you had relative parkland here there were compact buildings everywhere. Not so nice a place to study… bet the teaching is better though. On returning home I tried to watch the Denver Broncos vs San Diego Chargers game via not entirely legal means… which was demonstrated by the feed cutting out after a quarter and a half. I was all ready for a late night but ended up in bed about 10:30. Disappointment… which will lead to another post about watching the NFL online like I did last year.

that must qualify as a quote of the day, even if it lands you in hell–next to your mother-in-law forever–
the “fun lady” was Reverend Debbie from Faversham. The Korean Studen’t name is Illyu (though I’m not sure that’s how you spell it)
Oh, and the balloons to the ceiling–Beth may recall the move to ban balloons in our church hall because the laser-smoke detectors can’t distinguish between smoke and a floating balloon, and every time one escaped and triggered the alarm, the fire department would come and threaten a $100 fine for false reporting…
